Peter DuBois, 1785-90 SC

Peter DuBois was born between 1785 and 1790 in South Carolina, the probable son of William DuBose and grandson of Stephen DuBose Sr. The first primary documentation for Peter is the 1810 Federal census for Salem, Sumter Co., SC. Peter is listed with his wife and a son and daughter, both under the age of 10.

Peter is next found on the 9th of September 1812 in Rutherford Co., TN as witness with William DuBose to a property deed. He appears in the 1820 Rutherford Co., TN census as Peter Dubusk. Peter and his children used both DuBois and DuBoise as the common spelling for their last name. Their descendants continued this tradition.

Although no marriage record can be found, property records establish Peter's wife as Annerev (last name unknown). She was born about 1788 in South Carolina.

7. Jacob Jackson DuBois (of whom presently). 

8. Ezeikel Henderson DuBoise (of whom presently).

9. Louisa DuBoise, born 1825.

10. Elizabeth DuBoise, born 1827 TN or AL.

11. Mahala Greenhill DuBois, born 08 Apr 1828 TN or AL.

12. George Canady DuBoise, born 1830 Warren Co., TN.

Generation 2

Jacob Jackson DuBois, born 09 Jan 1817 in Rutherford County, Tennessee; died 29 Apr 1879 in Olive Branch, Desota, Mississippi. He married Lucinda Bruton on 08 Aug 1837 in Florence, Alabama. Lucinda Bruton, born 12 Jul 1818 in Kentucky; died 20 Jan 1873 in Olive Branch, Desota, Mississippi. She was the daughter of  Phillip Bruton and 35. Zilphia Bruton.

The Jacob DuBoise family had smallpox during the Civil War and no medical attention was to be had. All lived through the smallpox, but Zilphia and a sister whose husbands were in the army were pregnant and never fully recovered and when time came for their babies, they both died in child birth. They were buried at Wilmar, Arkansas.

6. James Jackson DuBois, born 31 Aug 1847 in Franklin County, Alabama Tuscumbia or Florence, Colbert County, Alabama; died 24 Oct 1903 in Olive Branch, Desoto, Mississippi; married Mary Penina Germany 06 Dec 1868 in Grant County, Arkansas.

7. Jamima Ann DuBois DuBois, born 12 Jul 1850; married Monroe Balch in Olive Branch, Desoto, Mississippi; born in Olive Branch, Desota, Mississippi.

8. Henry Alexander DuBois, born 18 Apr 1853 in Tuscumbia, Alabama; died 21 May 1910 in Olive Branch, Desota, Mississippi; married Nina Stevens in Byhalia, Mississippi.

Ezeikel Henderson DuBoise, born 22 Jun 1822 in Franklin Co., AL; died 06 May 1880 Whitney Hill, TX. He married Amanda Rebecca Mackey on 22 Feb 1849 in Lawrence Co., AL. Amanda was born 24 Aug 1832 in Alabama; died 08 Mar 1884 in Whitney Hill, TX.
