Obituary - Dauphin Herald 9 November, 1939 Reel H-is
ROBERT MACHAN - Funeral services for Robert Machan Sr. will be held from the Dauphin United Church to Riverside Cemetery this afternoon, Thursday, November 9 at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. D.K.Burns will officiate. Pall bearers will be Wm.Buchannon; W.Terry; E.Clawson; F.Hawkins; R.Miller; Sid Beauchamp. Mr. Machan died in Dauphin General Hospital, Monday, November 6th following a long illness. He was 70 years of age.
One of the district’s pioneer settlers, Mr. Machan first came to Manitoba in 1885 from Lanarch (Lanark?), Ontario where he was born. In 1892 he settled in Dauphin District, turning to farming as an occupation and later entering business. In 1934 he retired from active life. He married Miss Margaret McPherson of Dauphin at Spruce Creek in 1896. Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons: F.E.Machan (Earl); G.M.Machan (Gavin); R.N.Machan (Robert); M.R.Machan (Melville); and David L.Machan (Leigh) all of Dauphin. five sisters: Mrs. S.Bray, Virden; Mrs. D.Moore, Portage; Mrs. Sid Scott, Salmon Arm,BC; Mrs. Blanche Smith, Winnipeg; Mrs. J.H.Smale, Bagget and two brothers; George of Arran, Sask; and W.C.Machan of Portage. A daughter, Mrs. John Bull (Gladys) predeceased him in 1936. Bulmore’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
